Sunday 20 November, Tauranga, Holy Trinity Church, Devonport Road.
With Conductor Justus Rozemond.
We mark 75 years since the inaugural concert of the Tauranga Concert Orchestra – which later changed its name to Bay of Plenty Symphonia – with Schubert’s ‘Great’ C major Symphony. Our celebration also features an up-and-coming young clarinet soloist and an early work by great New Zealand composer Douglas Lilburn, written to celebrate his upbringing on the family farm.
Soloist – Stefenie Pickston
Stefenie is a Hillary Scholar at Waikato University who has already made a name for herself as a highly talented clarinettist with great things ahead of her. Spohr’s 2nd Clarinet Concerto is a festive work, showcasing the flexibility and virtuosity of the instrument.
Lilburn – Drysdale Overture
Spohr – Clarinet Concerto No.2 – Soloist; Stefenie Pickston
Schubert – Symphony No. 9 in C Major, (‘The Great’)
